How can I increase the value of my home?

I'm thinking of selling my home soon, but I want to boost the price before I go to market. How can I increase the value of my home?

  • That will depend upon: its present condition, the state of the market, what you are prepared to spend, how quickly you want to sell. If it looks less than immaculate, removing clutter and a deep clean will always be a good move. A bit of white paint and filler will cost a bit more but could be a good return. If there are obvious defects that will make it difficult for a buyer needing a mortgage then it may be worth fixing these. But you have to balance the cost to you against the value to a potential buyer. A major refit or programme of improvement is unlikely to be worthwhile unless the house is obviously deficient in basic amenities compared to other property nearby. If you are intending to 'do-it-up' for resale then learn to think like a developer not a homeowner.

  • Hi there, There are lots of different ways that you can add value to your property. Small alterations, like a new paint job or windows, can make a big impact when looking to sell. Larger changes, like adding a conservatory or renovating a new garden, can add even more to price tag. Check out the article below for some of the best ways to add value to your home. Many thanks, Dan
