What's it like to live in Southampton?

How does it compare to the areas around? Is there much greenery in the area?

  • Like anywhere it has it's good and it's bad areas but the good far outweigh the bad. It has a strong economy with high employment levels and a good number of blue chip companies, along with well regarded university & college. I have lived here all my life and love the fact we are on the sea, have the New Forest within minutes and can be in the hussle and bussle of London or Brighton in an hour or so. It is something that most locals will not appreciate driving past everyday but we have a massive area of open space on Southampton common and also parks throughout the city centre itself, I walk those for a while on bad days..... Calming Hope this helps Matthew

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.

  • Its ok, I lived in Southampton for 42 years, I was born in lock sheath,, 9 miles from Southampton, I moved to the city when I got marred and lived there for another 20 years.. there are bad estates there too, riddled with drugs and violence antisocial types and its not the kids but the adults. which pulls the city down, Weston thorn hill and Millbrook, and parts of basset there is a lot of nice Southampton, inner city avenue.. parts of Shirley and the new forest. I moved away and live somewhere else but Southampton will always be my home!
